Jariel Yang is a Data Scientist at Luminosity, contributing to the Transforming Siloed Data into Justice System Insights initiative. He analyzes large, complex justice system datasets in collaboration with team members, identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies that contribute to a comprehensive understanding of justice-related data. Jariel builds and rigorously evaluates statistical models using both traditional methods and modern machine learning techniques, develops interactive dashboards to support data exploration, and crafts compelling narratives that communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Jariel holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and Public Policy from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Fudan University, with a concentration in social statistics. Prior to joining Luminosity, he gained experience at the UChicago Data Science Institute, the United Nations, and Save the Children International Fund, where he applied advanced analytics to support data-informed decision-making across sectors including public policy, international development, and social impact.
