Dr. Nicholas Burtch serves as Luminosity’s Director of Data Analytics and leads the company’s data science, research, statistical analysis, and data visualization work. He sets analytical standards, oversees the Data Science and Data Visualization teams, and helps guide project priorities, client relationships, and the development of analytical capabilities.

Nick brings more than a decade of experience applying advanced analytical methods to complex problems. His expertise spans statistical analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, generative artificial intelligence, data visualization, and communicating complex findings to varied audiences. His work covers the full analytical lifecycle, from preparing and exploring complex datasets through modeling, interpretation, visualization, and communicating results. He is also co-author of Machine Learning and Generative AI for Marketing, which explores modern artificial intelligence and machine learning in data-driven business applications.

Earlier in his career, Nick served as a Harry S. Truman Fellow in National Security Science and Engineering. As a Principal Investigator, he led multidisciplinary research that produced peer-reviewed publications, a patent, and invited presentations. He has also mentored undergraduate and doctoral researchers and led cross-functional technical teams.

Nick holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He also holds a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His technical expertise, research experience, and leadership support Luminosity’s commitment to rigorous, accessible, and actionable justice-system analytics.
