I stood across the street and took a photo of the expansive courthouse in front of me. Across the entire top of the building is an inscription “The impartial administration of justice is the foundation of liberty.” I arrived at the courthouse early and had a few minutes to reflect on this statement. I liked it. I related to it. I am dedicating my life to make it true.
As I stood staring at this building I began to think, as I have a lot lately, about how much longer I can do this work in this way – with all of this travel. Delayed flights, sleepless hotel nights, more bad food than good, and just plain exhaustion. Pondering my options, I looked to the left of where I was standing, where I took the picture above, and I saw this.
And then I knew. I must keep going until “The impartial administration of justice is the foundation of liberty” is much more of a true statement in this country than it is today. And so, the journey continues.
